Created by a tiny team of indie developers, Heliborne managed to exit early access in late 2017. After gaining a small but loyal fan-base in its beta stages, the game has reached a point of polish and completion not common to the indie scene. The game revolves around helicopter missions, either alone or with other players, gaining victory points with various airships to gain upgrades and unlock new models. The helicopters in the game cover a huge range of styles, from bare-bones 1950s models to modern day beasts. All of the separate vehicles have their own style and handling, offering a huge range of play styles and room for player skill to develop. Game modes vary from standard multiplayer team battles to more dynamic single player maps based on real or historical battles with changing objectives and enemy units. The strongest aspect of Heliborne is the attention to detail and control schemes which bring a strong level of immersion.
